The Tax Benefit

First-time tax residents in Taiwan with a monthly salary exceeding NT$300,000 (~$10,000 USD) receive a special tax exemption:

  • The first NT$3 million (~$100,000 USD) of salary income is 50% exempt from income tax for the first 3 years
  • Effectively halving your tax rate from ~30% to ~15% on the first $100K
